Buying Your Home

Hello!  If you're reading this, you're at least pondering the idea of buying a home.  Before we dig in and talk about why we think you should work with us, we have one request for you:

Relax.  Take a deep breath.

Yes, this is going to be a journey, and there will be excitement and big decisions to make, but no matter who you are - experienced home owner or first-time buyer - the first thing we want you to know is that we're in this with you.  We'll be your partner and guide.  We want to build a relationship with you that's more than just a transaction, so we're going to do what it takes to earn your trust, lower your stress, and educate you about how it all works.  And, hopefully, we'll even have some fun along the way.

Okay, ready?

Shopping for a home has become increasingly modernized and automated.  While we applaud the increased access to tools and information, it can be paralyzing to try to understand your options and make decisions without a skilled and experienced guide and partner. No matter what stage you're at - just dipping your toes in the water, or bookmarking listings in your favorite neighborhood - we can help.  So - where are you in your home buying journey?

1. "I'm not sure if I'm ready to buy a home."

Not sure if now's a good time to buy a house?  Or even if you want to buy at all?  Worried that you can't afford anything you'd love in the greater Portland metro area?  We can help!  Even before you start on your journey to find the perfect home, we want to make sure you feel prepared and supported.  And if now's not the right time for you, we're not going to push you - we believe in building a relationship based on trust, even before the shopping begins. Let's start with a conversation about your hopes and dreams for a house, align that with your budget, and we'll give you honest advice about the best neighborhoods for you to consider.

2. "I'd like to buy a home, but I don't know where to start."

Excited to start your search for a home, but not sure how or where to get started?  Wondering if you need a pre-approval, or even a lender, at this stage?  Curious about all the different cities and neighborhoods in the area, and what will be a good fit for you?  If you're just dipping your toes in the water, we can help here, too!  With our extensive knowledge, experience, and love of the area, we can act as enthusiastic - but realistic - guides to making sure your journey and destination are a fit for your unique lifestyle.

3. "I'm ready to find my home!"

House hunting!  This is the exciting (but often nerve-wracking) stage where a plethora of tools exist to help you shop - but it's also the stage where leveraging our skills and experience is the most critical.  Finding the right property for you takes more than just tools - it takes a deep knowledge of the area, the ability to see past marketing language and critically assess properties, and our deep connections and relationships in the industry that will increase your chances of finding your perfect home.

As your fiercest advocates, we'll start by learning what is most important to you about your end goal: buying a home. We value your story - where you’ve been and where you hope to land next.  Let us help with the legwork of finding you properties that meet and exceed your expectations, until we find your perfect place.

4. "I'm ready to make an offer on a home!"

We'll be honest here - no agent can guarantee your offer on that "perfect home" you found will be accepted.  You might have to shake off some disappointment and keep searching, but we pride ourselves on balancing balancing empathy with an analytical approach, so we can guide you through this emotional journey while staying grounded and on track.

That said, making and negotiating offers is a science and an art, and we're experts at this.  We know how to navigate that delicate balance of making an offer that's competitive but also reflects your situation and needs.  We'll take the time to understand your unique situation and goals in advance, so we're prepared to negotiate proactively on your behalf.

5. "My offer was accepted!"

Fantastic!  But we're not done yet - this stage can be overwhelming, with inspections, contingencies, signing documents, etc.  We're still your partner and advocate through all of it.  We've been through this process countless times, and we've seen it all.  Including times when a bad inspection revealed that the best choice was to back out - despite how emotionally distressing that can be when you think you've found your dream home.  But we'll always prioritize your long term interests over just getting a sale closed, because remember - we're on your side, and we want to build a long-lasting relationship.

6. "I got my keys!  Wait, aren't we done?"

Remember, we're with you for the long haul!  Do you need recommendations for movers or contractors?  Did the previous owner leave a garage full of junk and you don't know what to do?  Let us help ensure your transition goes smoothly - you can benefit from our connections and referrals, as well as our experience dealing with any post-transaction issues.

And, sometime down the road when you're ready for your next transaction (selling and/or buying), you won't need to look far for an invested partner.

We believe in building relationships over churning out transactions - it's good long-term business sense, sure, but it's also embedded in our values.  We're in real estate because of the people; because we can leverage our skills to make people's lives better.
